Stuff by Nick

This Wiki thing is dedicated to code snippets and other technical stuff that I gathered during my work over the last 30 years in multiple positions, companies, countries and continets :)

Quick introduction: My name is Nick. I have been in IT in or form or another since 1986 or so. Started writing BASIC programs using Atari ST, moved over to Pascal, C, C++, then Visual !@#$% came out and I switched to system administration. I discovered Unix in the early 90s when I was introduced to Solaris, moved to Slackware, then RedHat, and from there it was short jump to Debian, FreeBSD, SCO, and some other stuff I cannot remember.

In 2009, I joined VMware as a Technical Support Engineer, I aced the interviews for all the support groups except Storage, so naturally they decided that I am a great candidate for Storage Support (they were right btw).

At VMware I was introduced to type 1 hypervisors, disaster recovery (SRM), taught that I really wasn't that good at Unix after all, logs are truth, and everything you don't know can be referenced to as “purple”.

In 2016, VMware decided to shutdown the Canada support office. So now, I am “The VMware Guy” at Dell/EMC engineering labs. Also, I'm that guy who has finger dyslexia in Slack, write really bad Python code that somehow does the job, and know enough Powershell/PowerCLI to fight my way out of a wet paper bag.

So there, if you have read this far.. why?

Most of the stuff I dump in here will be small, no long explanations, and likely to break.
You have been warned, use at your own risk.
